DFB and BFV have created the opportunity to extend the current football season and to cancel the upcoming one. The coaches in the Würmtal are divided on this.

Würmtal - The German Football Association has created the basis for the amateur leagues to be able to end their seasons in spite of the Corona crisis - if the relevant national association so wishes. For the first time in history, the football season from the 3rd league to the lowest classes can be extended beyond June 30th.

If no end of the season is wanted, "the 2020/21 game year can begin at a later date or, if necessary, even be canceled in whole or in part," said DFB Vice President Rainer Koch, who is also President of the Bavarian Football Association (BFV).

Football season can still be canceled

However, this does not mean that the currently interrupted 2019/20 season will definitely continue. However, an early termination is extremely difficult for the associations, since no regulation can be found in the DFB statutes for this case. Therefore, the football associations are threatened with a wave of lawsuits - for example from sponsors who demand their money back. Koch continues to see an early termination of the season as the “very last option”.

The soccer coaches from the Würmtal are still taking the latest developments with ease. Munich's Merkur spoke to seven coaches:

Davide Taurino, sporting director and youth coach at TSV Neuried, is fundamentally in favor of ending the season and starting the next one a bit later. “If the number of cases drops again, it could perhaps be played again from the end of May. Then the teams for which there is still something should play play-off and play-down. The teams in no man's land would no longer have to play. But I don’t think much of skipping next season. ”

The coach of the first men in the district league, Maximilian Reid, would also like to continue playing ("as soon as possible"), but thinks this is unlikely and calls another approach: "The association has given itself some air, but nothing more . At some point you have to say that the season is over. What speaks against the fact that the championship leaders are rising and there are no relegations? Then one more team will be relegated next season. ”

Josip Hrgovic, coach of the district league women, is divided: “It is fundamentally good that they want to end the season. It is also a sign that this phase is passing. But if the next season is completely canceled, we would have an eternally long break until summer. How would that be implemented in practice? I heard from eight corners that the current second half of the season could not even start until the winter of 2021. ”

The coach of Kreisligist SV Planegg-Krailling, Michael Lelleck, assures his solidarity with the association - no matter how the decision ultimately turns out: “I will definitely accept it. Even if, for example, I don't think it would be so great if the coming season was completely canceled. ”The SVP trainer is also concerned about the potential play during the holiday season.

Similar to Lelleck, Bernd Gegenfurtner also has the holiday problem in mind. "I am planning my vacation after the football season," says the district league coach of TSV Graefelfing. “Dragging the current season longer is doable - it's a way. I would completely cancel the season, but it is senseless to speculate anyway. ”

This is what the DJK Würmtal says about the idea of the BFV

Mario Germek, coach of A-Classist DJK Würmtal, brings up a fundamental change in the way the game is played: “If you change the season overall to the calendar year, a shift in the second half of the season would be optimal. Then you could end the season this year and always play from March to November from the next - just like with the seniors. If not, you'd better close the season now and let the first-round table count. ”

Ilker Özdemir, TV Stockdorf

Even before the BFV raised the issue, Ilker Özdemir had pleaded for the second half of the season to be postponed. "This is the only fair solution, so nobody is disadvantaged or preferred," says the assistant coach of A-Klassist TV Stockdorf and chief coach of the B-Class Reserve of TVS. “If we stop the season now and the corona situation doesn't improve until the new one starts, we have a problem. So I would move the current second half of the season to spring 2021, ”says Özdemir, who is also a referee at the BFV.

“Should the situation relax earlier, the teams can still play prep games this autumn. Then we play a game every weekend for three months. I think that viewers would also come. "
