Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - DFL boss Christian Seifert wants to redesign professional football after the corona crisis and hopes for an upper salary limit.

"We now not only need a 'Sports Medicine' task force to create the conditions under which we can continue to play. We now also need a 'Future Professional Football' task force that must define the framework conditions under which we want to play in the future," said the managing director and board spokesman of the German Football League in an interview with the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung". This is the unanimous opinion of the entire DFL Presidium.

Seifert would like to use this task force in autumn. "The last topic in every board meeting was: What do we learn from this crisis, what do we have to think about? The list grows longer with every meeting," said the 50-year-old. "We don't just want to get through the crisis somehow and then continue as before."

Seifert also hopes for the possibility of an upper salary limit being introduced. "But the fact is that a salary cap violates European law," he said. "If there are any new signals from politics, I'll give you the letter and seal that UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin is going to the EU and saying: Let's talk about salary caps, transfer fee limits and consultant fees.
