Seeshaupt - Actually, there should be a lot of activity on the grounds of the Oberland Seeshaupt (SVOS) sailing club. After the catastrophe in Bavaria was triggered due to the corona pandemic, the clubhouse and the entire facility are closed. Crane operation was also discontinued. "Unfortunately there is no reasonable alternative to this decision," says Franz Kuffer. The chairman once again reminded his members of the urgency of the protective measures on the SVOS website. "If you look at the age structure in our association, you will see that a large number of the members belong to the risk group," reports Kuffer.

Sailing: No training in Seeshaupt, silver opti-sail in Tutzing canceled

He doesn't know how long the skippers in his club will have to go any further than Heiner Müller. "You have to wait and see how this develops," admits the chairman of the Yacht Club Seeshaupt (YCSS). The entire company is also at St. Heinricher Straße 117, as suggested by the German Sailing Association. "We are all asked to avoid social contacts as much as possible," the DSV informed its members in mid-March. "We therefore recommend that no events (regattas, training sessions, sailing, gatherings, etc.) be held until the end of April and that all planned dates be canceled." The neighbors of the German Touring Yacht Club from Tutzing (DTYC) have followed these guidelines and that Silver Opti sails painted on the last weekend of Easter vacation. Walter von Schorlemer was always represented with his sailing cadets at the youngest regatta. The youth keeper seems a bit baffled by the situation, although he has been in office for two decades. "The big question is: when will it go on and how?" At the moment, only improvisation helps.

His traditional training camp on Lake Garda, which the YCSS has been organizing for 19 years, has been canceled. Since sailing is to be refrained from until April 30th as recommended by the DSV, von Schorlemer has organized a dry training session for his offspring at home, which consists of three different contents. On the one hand, the children and adolescents were equipped with the game "Tactical Sailing" by Paul Gerbecks, in which they can also compete against each other online. On the other hand, they were given physical exercises to help them keep fit during the Corona break. So that the mind is also stimulated, there was also a list of sailing videos that can be received on the Internet via YouTube. "But it cannot be a substitute for water lessons," notes the young chief of the Seeshaupter.

Sailing: Different qualification criteria in the various boat classes

After the long winter, his sailors needed a lot of practice right now. In the summer, the German championships as well as world and European championships are coming up. In order to start internationally, qualifications must first be completed. The optimists have already agreed to use the national ranking list as the norm for nominations. How the youth classes 29er and 420er proceed has not yet been decided. “Every boat class has to decide for itself,” says von Schorlemer. He expects different solutions to the question of how and when.
