The Professional Football League (LFP) announced Tuesday evening, after a meeting of its board of directors, that its office would meet on Thursday to follow up on government announcements that have rendered the scenario of a resumption of the season obsolete. This meeting will be followed by a new Board of Directors, on the date still unknown, "which will have to formally decide to end the 2019/2020 season and then convene a General Assembly of the LFP", according to the press release.

On the sidelines of the meeting on Tuesday evening, several French football leaders were able to obtain explanations directly from the Minister of Sports Roxana Maracineanu, who confirmed to them that a resumption of competitions may be possible in early August, subject to developments of the health situation, according to a source familiar with the matter.
In the afternoon, the announcements by Prime Minister Edouard Philippe swept away the hypothesis favored by the clubs, which was to resume competition in camera in mid-June. The sports ministry told AFP that football could resume in August. It remains to be decided whether the players in the Championship wish to end the current season this summer or start the next. In the event of a permanent cessation, it will be up to the General Assembly to fix the end-of-season procedures, in particular the classification.
