There are days like that ... In addition to announcing this Thursday, April 30, in the company of its president, Nathalie Boy de la Tour, the end of the L1 and L2 Championships, Didier Quillot, the Executive Director General of the Ligue de professional football (LFP), had to register in the morning the breach of contract of the Canal + group for the end of the 2019-20 season of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. According to L'Equipe , Canal +had indeed signed a few days ago with the LFP an addendum to his contract. After committing to pay 37 million euros (paid to the League) for matches played and broadcast before the pandemic linked to Covid-19, the encrypted channel indicated that it would not make any additional payment if "the championships of L1 and L2 2019-20 did not resume. Still according to the sports daily, this decision by the Canal + group was motivated to “cut short the play-off projects put together by Jean-Michel Aulas, the president of Olympique Lyonnais”. There was obviously no question for the broadcaster to embark on this type of end of the championship. As a reminder, Canal + and BeIN Sports , the two broadcasters of L1 and L2, were yet to pay 243 million euros by the end of the season to the LFP.
