Coronavirus: National Rugby League proposes to stop the season

The Top 14 and Pro D2 championships are not expected to resume this season. In a press release, the National Rugby League (LNR) announces this Thursday: "After consultation with the Presidents of Top 14 and Pro D2 Clubs, the Bureau will propose to the LNR Steering Committee not to follow up on scenario 2 which planned the organization of Final Phases at the end of August to close the 2019-2020 season, to pronounce the end of this 2019-2020 season, and to focus on the organization of the launch of the 2020-2021 editions of the two championships from the month September 2020 ".

The office of the LNR will thus propose to the steering committee to pronounce the end of the season, and to work already on the 2020/2021 season, in the hope that it can begin as early as September after having been put in l shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

No details on a possible title of champion of France

Information communicated after a meeting with Roxana Maracineanu, the Minister of Sports. The press release specifies that "the National Rugby League will present in the coming days to the Ministry of Sports its proposal for medical protocol, re-athletics, preparation for the preparation of the 2020-2021 championships in strict compliance with the health guidelines set by the authorities ".

For the time being, the LNR has not given any additional information on the attribution of a possible title of champion of France, nor on the establishment of a final classification of the championship. The names of the teams qualified for the European Cup have not yet been established. Decisions which must therefore be taken during the National Rugby League's Steering Committee, which will be convened at the end of this process. "The date will be set in the coming days," concludes the NRL.
