Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - DOSB President Alfons Hörmann does not want to see future German applications for the Olympic Games in the light of the current corona crisis.
"This is being questioned from various sides anyway, but I think one should not discuss such a fundamental question in the sense of the application strategy from the current crisis situation," said Hörmann at Bild live. Gathering 205 nations in an Olympic village is "always a special challenge".
Hörmann described the postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games from 2020 to 2021 as "correct and important". However, the public debate about future applications for large events is sure to be "influenced in some way by the current situation," said the 59-year-old. Hörmann added: "But the basic system that world sport lives from, that it brings people together across borders, is our DNA and the great added value. And I very much hope that we do not have to say goodbye to this idea, then international sport would be dead."
