Daniel Baller, youth leader of TSV Allershausen, has asked parents and coaches to behave in an exemplary manner on the sidelines.

Desert abuse and threatening gestures saw one of the four referees exposed to the 2017 Merkur CUP district finals - a father from Dachau exceeded all limits after the TSV 1865 semi-final loss to FC Bayern Munich and could only be reassured with the threat of police measures. The gig caused horrified shaking of heads in the wide area of the Willi Widhopf Stadium in Eching, but no one from the Dachau delegation even tried to tame the troublemaker. The behavior of some parents on the sidelines is in complete contradiction to the content in the “Book of Values”. However, lumping all of them into one pot would be completely wrong.

"Behavior is different and depends on the team"

"The behavior is very different and often team-dependent," says Daniel Baller, youth leader of TSV Allershausen. Sometimes he observed a very good cohesion between the parents. "It becomes difficult when they focus too much on sports," Baller reports, "with a big mouth against referees or opponents". But why do adult people behave that should actually be role models for their children? "A lot comes from the coaches and is transferred to the parents," says Baller. If the coach brought in unrest, it was sometimes just a matter of time before the audience went wild. "Then the parent group powders against the parent group - and the game is no longer watched." So that things don't get as far as possible, a clear message from the trainer or a club manager helps to keep a proper distance from the field and to save provocative, inciting comments. "Otherwise there is only a clarifying conversation with the parent, who then just has to stay at home," says Baller, "and I would not take that into account, because the philosophy of the club is paramount!" In the worst case, Baller would put up with it that inconsiderate parents unregistered their child. There have been cases in which parents drove their offspring like migrating birds from club to club. Baller doubts "whether this is good for the child". The responsibility cannot only lie with the club: Parents should exhort each other to show respect and fairness - not only with the Merkur CUP! JOCHEN JÜRGENS
