Deconfinement: When sailors and elected officials mobilize to reopen the beaches

2020-05-03T14:23:56.718Z

THE SCAN SPORT - While the beaches are prohibited from access due to the confinement linked to the coronavirus, French sailors and elected officials are launching petitions to reopen these areas of the coast.

Saturday, the Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner reaffirmed the words of Edouard Philippe: the beaches will remain closed until further notice. A decision that causes a lot of misunderstanding among some elected officials of coastal cities, but also for sailors. "I didn't understand this ban as silly as the limited slots for sports in big cities. Leaving large open spaces that are freely accessible means allowing walks with greater distance ”, deplores the double winner of the Vendée Globe Michel Desjoyeaux on Twitter.

I never understood this prohibition, as silly as the limited time slots for sports in big cities. Leaving large open spaces freely accessible is to allow walks with greater distance. https://t.co/UiVvpTOLlY

Several petitions to reopen the beaches

Breton sailor Anne Quéméré is one of those women and men of the sea who do not agree with the government's announcements on the closure of the beaches. "I don't understand this decision, I'm angry and stunned. (...) It is absurd to deprive people who live near the coast and who have made the choice to live there. (...) Walking on a beach, frankly I don't really see where the danger is "she explained in a column published in  Ouest-France .

His petition "Reopening the beaches of the coast for the practice of a sporting activity" has already been signed by more than 55,000 people, including the last Vendée Globe winner Armel Le Cléac'h. Anne Quéméré wants the coast to be accessible "for surfers, swimmers, joggers, walkers and any other person practicing a physical activity for a fixed period without grouping". According to her, "too many people have been punished for simply doing a physical activity on beaches that are very uncrowded or even completely deserted".

Olivier Durin, a resident of Antibes also launched a petition to reopen the beaches according to a new concept, that of the dynamic beach that already exists in Australia: "We have the right to access the sea to practice an activity, swim , surfing, kayaking, fishing, but it is forbidden to stop on a towel or under an umbrella. "

Elected officials are also mobilizing

Fifty deputies from Normandy and Brittany also sent a letter to Prime Minister Édouard Philippe and to Minister of Sports Roxana Maracineanu. They demand in particular the reopening of the beaches in the green departments from May 11.
