As a thank you for helping to organize the 2019 Merkur CUP final, SpVgg Unterhaching had promised SV Warngau a friendly game. That has now been postponed.

Warngau - It is not uncommon for a large club to help a smaller club. When a small club like SV Warngau helps a big club like Unterhaching, that's something special. Haching's President Manfred Schwabl had promised the friendly team a friendly game of the first team to support the organization of the Merkur CUP's grand finale for the 25th anniversary in 2019. To date, it has not taken place - also because of the corona virus. But Schwabl's promise still applies.

With a helper staff of 50 people, the Warngauer 2019 were at the Unterhaching sports park and made available their experiences, which they had proven in 2017 when hosting the big final in Warngau. By 2022, the grand finale of the Merkur CUP, the largest e-youth tournament in the world, will take place in the Unterhaching sports park. "It's like a wedding," said SV youth leader and organizer Yvonne Frischmuth at the time. "You prepare for a year and a half and then everything is over very quickly." Today Frischmuth says: "All good things come in threes." Because Schwabl wants to keep his promise, of course, only the appointment is a bit bumpy.

Actually, the game should have taken place on June 23, 2019, but Warngau's chairman Christian Schöllner was also not there on his honeymoon and coach Daniel Mayer. The Unterhachingers decided without further ado to support SV Miesbach in the construction of the artificial turf pitch and to play the friendly game with the district townspeople (we reported). Because a good, friendly relationship developed between those responsible for SpVgg Unterhaching and SV Warngau, the game was postponed by a year and should have taken place on June 20 this year.

"We would then have linked the game to a fan festival," explains Schöllner. He himself has taken a little back on the field and still mainly plays for the second team of the SV. Every now and then he helps out with the first team, but Schöllner wouldn't have played against Unterhaching anyway. Because of the Corona pandemic, the date cannot be kept this year either, the SV players now have to wait a year.

"The game was not canceled, it was only postponed," says Frischmuth. Because now the game 2021 is to take place, provided that this fits into the schedule of the game association, for which the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga has not yet been ticked off. Just last week, the majority of third division clubs voted to continue the season. "We have to follow the Hachingers there," says Schöllner. "Of course that's a shame for the boys now, but it doesn't run away from us."

Even if the game itself does not run away, the players of the game association will always do so in the unequal duel. District club SV Miesbach had to settle for a 1:11 in the friendly game.
