Berlin (dpa) - A decision about the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii should be made soon. Communication director Dan Berglund informed the German press agency on request that Ironman would meet them by the middle of the month.
The World Cup over 3.86 kilometers swimming, 180.2 kilometers cycling and 42.2 kilometers running was actually planned for October 10th.
Due to the corona virus pandemic, there is a big question mark behind it. Managing Director Andrew Messick has already said that a shift is possible. A new start for February next year is conceivable.
Defending champion and triple champion Jan Frodeno has already expressed great doubts. Two-time winner Patrick Lange told dpa: "At the current time, I can hardly imagine that Hawaii will still take place in October under these conditions."
Should the race, which has been won by German triathletes since and including 2014, be postponed, it would "have a greater impact on my preparation," said Lange. "Preparing for a heat race in the cold European winter is almost impossible. So the question for all participants will be how to prepare the body for the tropical conditions in Hawaii in the best possible climatic way."
