If the health crisis does not get worse by then, the French Athletics Championships, scheduled for June in Angers, will take place in September

The French Athletics Federation unveiled this Friday a new version of the calendar of national competitions, upset by the coronavirus pandemic, with in particular the holding of the French Championships on September 12 and 13 in Albi.

The "France" were initially scheduled to take place from June 19 to 21 in Angers, but the federation had canceled the meeting on April 7 like all of its competitions until the end of July due to the health crisis.

The rest of the competitions organized by the FFA will run from August 29 to October 31. "The French Athletics Federation has always, since the beginning of this health crisis, worked to maintain a calendar of summer competitions and to avoid a white season for our athletes" explains the president of the FFA André Giraud, in a press release. “Summer competitions are part of the DNA of our sport. We now hope that the evolution of the health crisis will allow us to maintain all of these beautiful and many deadlines. "

A specific qualification mode

After the postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games, the cancellation of all the summer meetings and the European Championships planned in Paris in August, French athletics was heading towards a year 2020 without competition. If the health crisis does not worsen, this will not be the case but it still takes patience.

“Our logic is to propose a season where recovery will be gradual, depending on what it will be possible to achieve, territory by territory. Not all clubs will necessarily be able to reopen meetings at the same time, and our national deadlines will of course innovate to adapt to these exceptional realities. We are therefore working on a specific qualification mode for the French Championships, ”insists DTN Patrice Gergès.

The FFA had published on Monday the procedures for resuming training in clubs for athletes, partly taking up the recommendations of its medical commission and the Ministry of Sports, with in particular an area of 4 square meters to be respected between each individual at the stop as well as a distance of 10 m between the runners.
