The long way to the perfect place at TSV Bernbeuren

Most of the sports grounds are orphaned due to the corona virus. In the “Our Sports Fields” series, they get the attention they deserve - today: Bernbeuren.

Bernbeuren - Felix Lindauer walks calmly over the football field in Bernbeuren. The sun reflects on the bleachers, making the red and black seats sparkle. There is a lot going on here at the weekend when the first team plays their home league games. Usually. There is currently silence. In the past few years, the course has rarely emitted so much tranquility. When Lindauer walks over the well-tended facility, he doesn't just think of sporting events. He also thinks about a lot of work. Since 2015 the cabins have been renovated, the new club has been inaugurated and the main square has been extensively renovated. Every time, players and other club members also helped out.

Several thousand working hours came together. "It was sometimes difficult to keep everyone happy," says Lindauer. The conversion of the cabin wing in the Auerberghalle took around eight months alone. The TSV originally had two changing rooms - with three men's teams and one women's team, that was not enough. So the athletes tore out the walls, reinstalled them differently. “Someone had never had a drill in hand before and then bricked a wall,” says Lindauer and laughs. Youth players also helped, for example helping with carrying. The joint project was worthwhile: The TSV now has four cabins with their own showers and a room for the referee.

Refurbishment is more expensive than expected

The conversion was not quite done yet, when the next major project broke through the TSV. In February 2015, the soccer stadium burned down next to the main square - the fire destroyed all the balls, goals, training materials and a mower, among other things. The community quickly decided: it will be rebuilt. Now the barn is significantly larger and also offers space for other departments, associations and the building yard. The building was inaugurated in 2016. It was in May. And two months later the next work started. This time it was the grass field.

The problem child of the TSV had already undergone some renovations. "The water did not drain at all, it was a single sludge," says Lindauer. There were games, "there were players up to the ankle in the water".

TSV supporter Richard Lerchenmüller saved the club. He committed 60,000 euros for the renovation. When it started, it became clear that it was not enough. Lerchenmüller had the square renewed extensively. Among other things, 35 drainages came in. How high the costs were in the end ... Lindauer doesn't know. "He never told me," says the head of department. But the result speaks for itself: a flat, green lawn has adorned the Bernbeuren sports grounds since 2017, and there are two training fields next to it. The grandstand was renewed, seat shells in the club colors - red and black - were attached. That motivated.

New place triggers an upswing

"We then had a sporty flow." TSV Bernbeuren was able to get back into the district league directly. The second team came up in the A-Class. Both have been in their leagues since then. And the TSV even has a third team - it competes in the C-Class. The women kick in the district class. On top of that, there are also the youth teams, which compete in neighboring communities.

So much hustle and bustle that normally prevails on the Bernbeuren sports field and the training grounds. But the lawn has withstood the strain for a long time. The problem child is history. And a club extremely proud.
