Berlin (dpa) - Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas makes his debut in the virtual Formula 1 racing series during the corona virus pandemic.
According to a message, the 30-year-old Finn will be on the legendary street circuit in Monaco on Sunday as well as the Frenchman Esteban Ocon from Renault. In addition, current Formula 1 drivers Charles Leclerc, Alex Albon, Antonio Giovinazzi, George Russell, Nicholas Latifi and Lando Norris are also fighting for victory in the racing simulation. The multiple world champions Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton have not yet participated.
Actually, the Monaco Grand Prix would have taken place this weekend on the Mediterranean coast. In the Corona crisis, however, the spectacle was canceled for this year. The virtual racing series is intended to offer Formula 1 fans some entertainment during the Corona break. It is always driven on Sundays on which, according to the race schedule, a Grand Prix would have taken place. In addition to the racing drivers, the former Dortmund football professional Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the Belgian national goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois are also guest starters.
