In recent years, the DFB honorary captain has repeatedly suffered health setbacks. Since a car accident in 2010, the former goalscorer has been deaf in the right ear and complains about balance problems. He also received a pacemaker and had to have a tumor removed from his shoulder.

Seeler played as a striker for the then Bundesliga club HSV from 1952 to 1973 and was a member of the German national team for 16 years. In 1966 he was runner-up with the DFB team in England and four years later he won bronze in Mexico. His track record: more than 400 competitive goals for HSV, 72 caps with 43 goals between 1954 and 1970, three "Footballer of the Year", German champions and cup winners.

A dream remained unfulfilled despite all the sporting successes. "If I had been to four world championships, I would have liked to have won the title. But I was not lucky. Nevertheless, everything was beautiful. I miss nothing," said a few years ago "Uns Uwe", who always used his HSV stayed true. In 1961, he resisted a million offer from Inter Milan and preferred home and family.
