Rohrmoos (dpa) - Austrian ski racer Anna Veith has ended her active career.

"My dreams for the future have changed. That's why I want to end my active career," said the 30-year-old on public service ORF. There had been speculation about the resignation for several days.

Veith, born Fenninger and married to former snowboarder Manuel Veith since April 2016, is one of the most successful Austrian alpine skiers in recent years. The Salzburg native became Olympic champion in Super G in 2014. She also won three gold medals (Super Combination 2011, Super G and Giant Slalom 2015), twice won the Overall World Cup (2013/14 and 2014/15) and three times Austria's Athlete of the Year (2013, 2014, 2015).

In the World Cup Veith started 251 times and won 15 races, eleven of them in giant slalom. She made it into the top three 46 times. Most recently, the 30-year-old had to fight injuries again and again. The resignation feels 100 percent correct, said Veith. "It was a mix of many smaller reasons, which is the main reason is difficult to assess." She left her precise plans for the future open.
