Berlin (AP) - All Formula 1 drivers are ready for ghost races during the coronavirus pandemic, according to the driver union leader, Alexander Wurz.
The currently planned Grand Prix without spectators is "a means of returning to the track earlier than in races with an audience. Therefore, all drivers also accept the prospect of driving in front of empty seats," said the Austrian to the British broadcaster Sky Sports F1.
However, the 46-year-old also emphasized that none of the drivers, and neither himself, is "a fan of ghost races". Nevertheless, none of the pilots from the premier class with whom he had last had "refused to be ready". Nobody said to ex-driver Wurz that it was wrong to race again under these conditions.
The first ten Formula 1 season races had previously been canceled or postponed. The racing series is currently planning to start on July 5 in Spielberg, Austria. At least the first events should definitely take place in the stands without spectators. Due to the Corona crisis, there is not yet a racing calendar, but it could still be published in May. Ideally, 15 to 18 races should take place by the end of the year.
