London (AP) - Among the two new positive coronavirus cases in the English Premier League is also a professional of the AFC Bournemouth.
"In accordance with the Premier League regulations regarding positive tests, he will isolate himself for seven days before he will be retested later," the club said on its website on Sunday.
The second series of tests on the 20 teams in the league had previously revealed two positive coronavirus cases. A total of 996 players and members of the coaching and support staff have been tested, as the football league announced at the weekend. No one has yet been informed who the second positive coronavirus case is. The tests were taken Tuesday through Friday.
The first series of tests, the results of which were published last Tuesday, revealed six infected persons from three teams among a total of 748 people. These six have not been tested again because they are still self-isolated, it said.
Premier League boss Richard Masters had recently expressed optimism about a possible new start. Since May 19, the Premier League teams have been able to train in small groups again - but without physical contact. According to media reports, the planned restart could be delayed by another week until June 19. Because of the corona pandemic, game operations have been interrupted since March.
