Lucien Favre is at Borussia Dortmund before the end. Which trainer would be a suitable successor? The candidate check.

Lucien Favre is at Borussia Dortmund before the end. Which trainer would be a suitable successor? The candidate check.

  • Lucien Favre , as Borussia Dortmund coach, is on the verge of being out
  • The Swiss No track with this season BVB pick
  • Who could be the new coach at BVB-Bank? A candidate check

Munich / Dortmund - It has been almost certain since Tuesday at the latest that Borussia Dortmund will not celebrate winning the German Championship * . BVB can make up this title after the 0: 1 (0: 1) in the top game against Bayern based on the now seven points behind.

It seems unrealistic that the Flick squad * will squander this lead with six games remaining, especially since Bayern will face Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Allianz Arena at home next Saturday.

BVB: Looking for Lucien Favre's successor? Or does he remain a trainer?

Now it was not the case that the black and yellow were inferior to the record champions * this Tuesday evening - quite the contrary. The Bundesliga cracker was quite a game at eye level, which was decided by a brilliant moment (Joshua Kimmich's dream goal).

The really big excitement happened after the game when Lucien Favre tried to explain the defeat and the consequences in front of the Sky-Mikros. When asked about the many critics who accuse him of not being able to lead BVB to a title, Favre replied : “I'm not going to say anything about that now. I'll be talking in a few weeks. "

This discussion brought up Sky expert Lothar Matthäus , who immediately suspected in the studio: "I immediately thought that was it! Favre stops in the summer, Niko Kovac takes over! ”Why Ex-FCB coach Kovac should follow according to Matthäus will remain his secret. Especially since BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke took a position on Wednesday. However, the fact is that Favre is  again more than counted at BVB . Another farewell after Mario Götze's seems not out of the question in the summer.

But who could actually lead the high-quality Dortmund team to the title? Some candidates would offer themselves for this.

BVB: successor to Lucien Favre at Borussia Dortmund - two current Bundesliga coaches?

  • Julian Nagelsmann (32, RB Leipzig, contract until 2023)

Even before Lucien Favre, the mega-talent among the coaches was a very hot candidate at BVB . At that time, however, the decision was made for the experienced Swiss - and Nagelsmann went to RB Leipzig. There, the 32-year-old took the next step in his development and proved that he can do even a top team even better.

Players like Timo Werner or Marcel Sabitzer made another big leap under Nagelsmann. The coaching youngster would definitely have the quality to coach BVB . Questionable whether he would cancel his project at RB prematurely. Especially since at some point he should also become a coach at FC Bayern * ...

  • Florian Kohfeldt (37, SV Werder Bremen, contract until 2023)

The Werder coach was already traded in the Signal Iduna Park * in autumn when Lucien Favre was last counted. Kohfeldt is currently fighting with Werder for relegation, so the personnel in connection with BVB might be a little surprised. But Kohfeldt enjoys a high reputation in the league, both professionally and personally.

If Werder dismount or start over after the messed up season and don't want to continue on the path with Kohfeldt , it would not be impossible that his way leads to BVB . However, his commitment would also be a certain risk. Because apart from Bremen, Kohfeldt hasn't seen much on the Bundesliga coaching bench yet.

BVB: successor of Lucien Favre at Borussia Dortmund - trainer with stable smell?

  • David Wagner (48, FC Schalke 04, contract until 2022)

All BVB fans who are now about to throw the PC out of the window or destroy the smartphone, should be told: Wagner has a successful past in Dortmund. Not only his close friendship with Jürgen Klopp , who was his best man, but also his successes with the BVB U23 made him move to Huddersfield Town on the island in 2015.

There he rose to the Premier League before joining FC Schalke last summer . After a strong first half of the season, the shape curve is currently pointing steeply downwards *. So maybe it would be available in summer. One could perhaps somehow sell his S04 past due to his proximity to Kloppo.

One of these insane aspects of German sports journalism is that Lucien Favre, who drastically improved his team at each of his seven head coaching stations, is considered a coach in Germany, who "wins nothing".

  • Daniel Farke (43, Norwich City, contract until 2022)

The next in line with BVB-DNA. Farke was Wagner's successor at BVB II before he also answered the island's calls. Farke has been training Norwich City since 2017 and rose to the Premier League with the Canaries.

There, the 43-year-old is fighting against relegation. It is possible that it could be an option in the summer if BVB wants a man with a stable smell. Whether Farke however, has to such international stars as the reputation Marco Reus or Axel Witsel to convince himself?

BVB: successor of Lucien Favre at Borussia Dortmund - even an ex-Schalke?

  • Domenico Tedesco (34, Spartak Moscow, contract until 2021)

The next coach with a Schalke past. Tedesco coached royal blue in the century derby, when BVB and Peter Bosz still wasted a 4-0 half-time lead. Despite his age, Tedesco enjoys an extremely high professional reputation. When he said goodbye to Schalke, he was just a farmer's sacrifice from the then S04 manager Christian Heidel.

Bumbles with Moscow somewhere in the middle of the table, where his contract runs until the end of 2021. But if BVB should inquire, Spartak shouldn't put any obstacles in its way. But only if BVB is interested ...

  • Christian Streich (54, SC Freiburg, contract until 2021)

The successful coach of SC Freiburg has been associated with the top teams in the Bundesliga for years . However, it is really questionable whether pranking would even work in such a shark tank.

Although his contract expires in Breisgau in 2021, Streich has no thoughts of saying goodbye . His emotional nature and professional know-how would make him a good fit for BVB , but it's hard to imagine that Hans-Joachim Watzke and Michael Zorc would see him as the BVB coach to come .

BVB: Lucien Favre's successor at Borussia Dortmund - Would Kovac be a suitable successor?

  • Niko Kovac (48, without a club)

It was a bit surprising how aggressively Lothar Matthäus brought the name Niko Kovac into play as BVB coach . Does anyone know more? Or was it just a small friendship service from Matthäus to Kovac to get the ex-Bayern coach in conversation?

Kovac was fired at Bayern last November and declined an offer from Hertha because he didn't want to take on a team until the coming season. So in terms of time, that would make sense. But is Kovac a suitable BVB trainer ? In Munich he was doomed not to get the cabin behind him. At BVB he would have a similar quality that he would have to moderate. Somehow Kovac is difficult to imagine as a coach in Dortmund .

  • Mark van Bommel (43, without a club)

The Dutchman is Bert van Marwijk's son-in-law , which would be the only closeness to BVB . Celebrated remarkable success as a young coach at PSV Eindhoven , but had to leave after a weak start to the season in autumn.

Reminds a little of Klopp of his kind. As a player, van Bommel was not a gifted kicker himself and lived from his mentality. Very talented and charismatic as a trainer. But would the BVB fans forgive him for his past at Bayern * ?

BVB: Successor of Lucien Favre at Borussia Dortmund - international solution?

  • Mauricio Pocchettino (48, without club)

The Argentinian was in the Champions League final with Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 , but then had to pack his bags. Last fall, Pocchettino was a very hot candidate as Kovac's successor at Bayern

The 48-year-old would have an international reputation, but does he want to go to the Bundesliga at all ? And: How good is his German? Pocchettino's advantages would be that he currently has no club. Disadvantage: His salary should be quite high.

  • Arsene Wenger (70, without club)

Was a coach at Arsenal for 22 years before being released there in 2018. Wenger is undoubtedly outstanding from a technical and human point of view, but a little too much favre resonates with him. In other words, he also plays great football, but his title display case could be fuller.

It is also questionable whether Wenger would want to start again at BVB at almost 71 years of age . Apart from that, he shouldn't be a man for Watzke, Zorc and Co.
