Football training in Corona times, the TSV Gilching-Argelsried shows. The Starnberg Mercury as a fence guest in the second training session since the restart.

Gilching - Gerald Söhnel stands with a smile on the edge of the square. "It's nice to see the boys on the ball again," says the course manager at TSV Gilching-Argelsried. It is Thursday evening and the national soccer team is just completing its second training session after the Corona break.

The players are also very happy. "I am very happy to finally be able to train again," says young talent Jonas Engelhardt. Seasoned Christian Rodenwald is also happy, but also pretty broken after the training session. “Football-specific strains are something completely different than if I just go for a run,” says the 31-year-old.

Corona training: having fun and working on technical weaknesses

The fact that the training only takes place under strict safety regulations hardly disturbs the TSV football players. "The exercises are fun, and I can work on my weaknesses in a targeted manner," Engelhardt explains. Trainer Peter Schmidt and assistant Felix Heil are happy about the hiring of their charges. “The fact that we have serious weaknesses, particularly in the technical area, has been clearly shown in the course of the season so far. We're going to work on that now, ”says Schmidt.

The coaching duo has exercises in the program that ensure that the 16 players present not only have audible fun, but also abide by the distance rules. And the kickers themselves are sensitized. "Stop! Don't touch the ball with your hands, ”Nick Schnöller calls out to a colleague at the beginning of the training session.

"The places are like carpet"

The units are made easier by the perfect training conditions on Talhofstrasse. "It couldn't be better," says Schmidt. And Rodenwald praises: "The seats are like carpets."

Schmidt's main task is to keep the players happy in the coming weeks and months. Game operations are to be continued after August 31 at the earliest. "We are now taking a break at Pentecost," says Schmidt.

BFV plans to revise its Corona guidelines

The small groups with a maximum of five people to be observed so far could then be history again. The Bavarian Football Association (BFV) is working on a revision of its guidelines following the latest political decisions. "But it won't make much difference, because exercises with contact will still be prohibited," says Schmidt.

He is skeptical whether there will still be a competition this year. "It's hard to imagine at the moment," says the 37-year-old high school teacher while cleaning the balls with disinfectant. That's why Schmidt doesn't want to overuse his footballers: “A good hour of training is enough. More could lead to an overload. ”
