Bundesliga stars call for "Justice for George Floyd": Sancho, Thuram and McKennie - now the DFB threatens

After the African American George Floyd was brutally killed by a police officer , protests are raging in the states . The gestures of the athletes are an appeal against racism and solidarity with the demonstrators

Jadon Sancho even accepted a card for his appeal. After scoring against SC Paderborn , he stormed towards a camera and pulled the jersey over his head - which he used to trade in yellow. After that, he also contributed two more goals to the brilliant 6-1 victory of the Borussia. Underneath he was wearing a yellow shirt with the words "Justice for George Floyd" . Weston McKennie had already written this request on his armband  (see first report).

Marcus Thuram did not use a written word, but his body. In the manner of football star Colin Kaepernick (see below), he knelt on the floor and bowed his head. A control panel of the DFB will now illuminate the political statements of the professionals, because this is actually prohibited in the association's statutes . Or maybe you turn a blind eye to this.

"Justice for George Floyd": Gladbach professional Marcus Thuram also sends signs against racism

Update of May 31, 6:24 p.m .: On Saturday, Schalke's Weston McKennie showed solidarity with the African-American George Floyd, who was killed by a police officer, and with the numerous demonstrators who are now protesting against racism in the USA (see below).

So the son of world champion Lilian Thuram will have to adjust to the fact that the DFB's control panel will investigate him. P olitical statements are loud League Statutes prohibited on the course. However, it can be expected that the association will tacitly agree to the professionals in this matter and will only send them a warning.

Black man died from police violence: Schalke professional sends a clear signal to the United States - now he faces punishment

Political messages are taboo on German soccer fields. Therefore, the Schalke professional now faces a penalty for wearing the bracelet with the words "Justice for George" . This was confirmed by Anton Nachreiner, chairman of the control panel of the DFB of the German press agency . " The DFB's control committee will take care of this matter and examine the matter over the next few days, " he clarified.

Schalke 04: Weston McKennie sets an example against racism - does the DFB turn a blind eye?

However, the test does not have to have actual consequences. After all, the German Football Association itself stands up against racism and does not necessarily have to pronounce the punishment.

There was an almost identical case six years ago. Anthony Ujah, then a player at 1. FC Köln, showed in a shirt with the inscription  "I can't breathe" . A statement of solidarity to Eric Garner , who was killed by a US policeman in a similar way to George Floyd

In this case, the DFB turned a blind eye to the important words against racism . Ujah received a warning and reminder of the existing ban. A different way of dealing with McKennie would be a bad signal today.
