As the "New York Times" reports, the USTA is examining the possibility of holding the Cincinnati Masters tournament in succession and then the US Open in New York at the same location. According to this, the combined women's and men's tournament scheduled for August 17 to 23 in the US state of Ohio should already be played at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. The US Open will then take place there from August 31 to September 13 at its usual location.
Due to the corona virus pandemic, the official game operation on the tennis tour is currently suspended until July 31. A decision about the Grand Slam tournament in New York is expected "mid to late June". The US association has submitted the idea of the women's organization WTA and the men's organization ATP, writes the "New York Times", citing unnamed sources in all three organizations.
In this scenario, the pros could stay in one place during their stay in the US, creating an isolated environment for tournament participants. The AP news agency had already reported on possible scenarios in the previous week. This included that the players were brought to New York from several airports around the world using specially chartered machines. Before departure, all participants would have to submit a negative test for the virus. Daily temperature measurements are also considered. Spectators should almost certainly not be admitted.
However, it is still unclear whether enough players may or would like to travel to the USA at the time due to the quarantine regulations in force and whether they would have to isolate themselves for a fortnight, for example. New York is particularly hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
If the US Open keeps its date, it seems practically impossible that the French Open will take place on sand a week later. The Paris organizers had postponed their tournament to the end of September. Wimbledon has been canceled for this year.
