The youth leader of SpVgg Altenerding, Florian Aldinger, talks about talent in youth football and their parents - every year in a large club he considers a bonus

Altenerding - every sports club knows ambitious parents. SpVgg Altenerding has been playing with some of their youth football teams in the district league for years and is also one of the top favorites of the Merkur CUP every year. It is clear that the association is attractive for motivated children and their parents. How easy or difficult is it to use? We asked about the youth leader Florian Aldinger, who immediately clears up with a prejudice: The mothers aren't that bad, as is often shown at youth leader conferences.

Fathers are already the more active parent on the sidelines

Mr. Aldinger, who is more active on the sidelines: mom or dad?

It is the fathers who are much more active and cheer more on the edge of the field. Even if the mothers have caught up in comparison to the past, the mothers also like to rattle among themselves.

Cheering or exaggerated ambition - where do you draw the line? When do you intervene?

When the parents cheer on the boys, it's always great. However, we and our trainers approach the parents when instructions for the game are called in, these may only come from the trainer. From my experience - I have to say here - excessive ambition has never led to success, so the youngsters tend to stop playing football.

Only a minimal number of children make it into the professional area

What advice do you have for parents dreaming of their sons' professional careers?

You can dream, but you shouldn't hope for it, because just a minimal part that plays for a professional club in youth makes the step into the professional field.

Should the son get an offer from Unterhaching, Bavaria or 1860 ...

... then you should definitely take this experience with you and see it as a bonus every year you can play there. It is important not to put the boys under pressure. You can't lose the fun of football. There we are again on the subject of "excessive ambition".

Aldinger: "It is important that the parents can also do this in time."

Some SpVgg talents have already switched to the clubs mentioned. How was the dealings with the parents there?

Of course, some fathers and mothers ask for our advice on what to do. It is important that the parents can also do this in time.

That can go wrong sometimes, right?

There are few negative examples. But we have also seen that the parents want to put their children there with all their might and contact the responsible scout or trainer again and again to put their child in a better position, but then the topic is quickly over on the part of the professional club .

But sometimes it's fine, isn't it?

Benedikt Bauer is a positive example. He currently plays with SpVgg Unterhaching in the U17 Bundesliga. At that time he moved from us to 1860 and then came back when he was no longer taken over. He then got the offer from Haching. The exchange with the parents was always positive, especially without pressure and without excessive ambition towards the son.
