Berlin (dpa) - In the difficult search for a schedule for the start of the Bundesliga season 2020/21, a later entry of some top clubs is also being discussed.
According to the "Bild am Sonntag", a model was discussed in the responsible commission of the German Football League, according to which the league starts on September 11th. The clubs, which are represented in the European Cup for a longer period in August, would not join until October 2. Another solution is the start at the end of September with a shortened or even canceled winter break.
FC Bayern and RB Leipzig are still represented in the Champions League. Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg are still in the Europa League. The European Football Union wants to announce next Wednesday when, where and in what form both competitions should be completed. According to media reports, Lisbon will host a mini-tournament for the remaining games in the premier class, which should end with the final on August 22 or 23.
As the "Bild" reports, the final tournament of the Europa League should go to North Rhine-Westphalia with the venues Cologne, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Duisburg. The city of Düsseldorf confirmed the "Rheinische Post" interest of the DFB. The August schedule of the European Cup competitions is problematic because there are two international days in the Nations League scheduled for early September. According to "Bild im Sonntag", however, UEFA could postpone them to October and November.
