The planned league cup competition would offer the regional league footballers of VfB Hallbergmoos and SE Freising new options - and another chance for promotion.

County  - On the one hand, the league should be played to the end, and on the other hand, there could be an additional cup competition to bridge the game-free times during league operations. The new timetable (see info box below) would give the top teams two chances to advance to the Bayernliga.

The sporting director of VfB Hallbergmoos, Anselm Küchle, had already assured during the discussion about a termination of the current season that all decisions of the association would be supported. "Because it is clear that there cannot be one solution," emphasizes Küchle. He is sticking to that now.

The Hallbergmoos official also has points that he would have liked to see differently: Küchle would have wished that the remaining league games would all be played this calendar year. Even without English weeks, the event is possible until the end of November. According to the current planning, eight games will be played from the beginning of September and the decisions will be made in four to five matches in spring - plus a possible relegation.

Küchle: "Such a cup competition is something very special."

Küchle sees the league cup as a gap filler because it would play out even more promoters in the Bayern league. "But I would rather make it directly in the rest of the league games," said the sporting director of VfB. He said yes and no to a one and a half-fold chance of promotion up to the coming summer: "The statistician certainly says yes, but such a cup competition is something very special." It is important to be fully there in a few games. However, such a league cup for bridging the time is an exciting and attractive option.

Hallbergmoos officials are currently annoyed by the sometimes polemical statements made by other club representatives on social networks. "I'm getting a bit annoyed by these daily debates," says Küchle. He tells one or the other that the key should also be reconsidered. The 28-year-old knows that some people adjust their opinions to the table status of their own club. "I would like a little more understanding for the people who have to make the decisions at the association," emphasizes Küchle.

Meanwhile, Alex Plabst, the coach of the regional league competitor SE Freising, is still not quite sure what to think of the additional League Cup. Of course you would accept the competition, the 52-year-old promises "because we have to". In addition, if the mini-tournament is to be played, the Lerchenfeld kickers want to go into the fight for bonus promotion in full earnest in the spring of 2021.

Plabst: "With today's knowledge, I would have voted to end the season."

“Nevertheless,” Plabst admits, “such a trophy has not been our top priority so far.” Rather, the SEF footballers would have preferred the season that was currently interrupted to be brought to an end this calendar year. "That would have been possible with three to four English weeks," explains Alex Plabst. "The clubs would do that, because each team doesn't just have a twelve-man squad." However, the season is protracted - two alternating windows would lie between a final decision on promotion and relegation. The question of fairness arises - no matter whether at the top or bottom of the tableau. "With today's knowledge of how everything is going, I personally would have voted for the end of the season," admits the SEF trainer.

Meanwhile, a kind of training is running on the Roider-Jackl-Weg. Until the end of June, captain Andreas Schredl and Co. meet to practice once a week in small groups and at individual stations. "From July we will see each other twice a week and increase the intensity", Plabst promises.

And at some point, those in charge of the SEF hope that duels in training and friendly matches will be possible again. "Hopefully from August at the latest, we can train again under different conditions," explains Coach Plabst. That will also be necessary if the ball is to roll again in early September.

The Freising team manager also confirms that the club will probably not make use of the change options this summer. Plabst emphasizes: “That would have to be a player who takes us extremely forward. So we're going into the remaining season with our previous squad. ”

Additional competition with sporting incentive

The Bavarian Football Association has now presented the proposal developed in the solution working group (LAG) "League and Cup Association Operations" with four competition modules. As in the regional league and the Bavarian leagues, this provides for an additional competition in addition to the continuation of regular game operations in two blocks (September / October 2020 and April / May 2021) and the qualification and implementation of the Toto Cup 2020/21.

The LAG recommends a flexible league cup competition with preliminary, intermediate and final rounds for each of the five regional league seasons, which are held during the game-free times of league operations and at the end of which the respective winners in a relegation round have a total of three direct promotion places to the Bavarian League play out. The competition has no influence on the results of the regular season. Should a team win the league cup that has already made it through the league, a successor principle applies. If a team that would be relegated to the league emerges as the winner of the League Cup competition, this will keep the class.

“I think that the model presented is very appealing to all clubs - especially the League Cup. The three direct promotion places offer a high sporting incentive, ”says association game manager Josef Janker. "The feedback was consistently positive." In an opinion poll asked at an online conference, no club representative who did not support the model spoke up. The next step is the further design of the League Cup. For this purpose, a further working group with representatives of the regional league clubs is created.
