And despite many rumors, Roxana Maracineanu retains her Sports portfolio, even if she is now "Minister Delegate", placed under the authority of Jean-Michel Blanquer, who therefore enlarges his scope of National Education and Youth to Sports. A decision immediately welcomed by the French Olympic Committee which, in a press release, "welcomes the rapprochement between school, youth and sports in the context of the organization of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024 and their heritage. "

If he lost a full-service ministry re-established three years ago by Edouard Philippe, French sport took a decisive turn there, focusing on a more societal and educational vision. The reform is above all structural.

Last year, the National Sports Agency (ANS) was created to take charge of the high level (formerly vested in the sports directorate of the ministry) and the development of practices (previously managed by the National Center for Development of sport), making the end of a full-fledged sports ministry inevitable.

Another sign, last year, the general inspectorate of sports had been grouped with that of national education. Positions of academic delegates for youth, popular education, community life and sports have also just been created and placed directly under the authority of the rectors. On the HR side, the agents of the Ministry of Sports, previously attached to Health, will, as planned, switch to National Education. All that remained was to align the policies of the cabinets.

"Sport will weigh more"

Since her appointment on September 4, 2018, the former swimmer, also engaged in a major fight against sexual violence in sport, has never hidden her appetite for the educational values ​​of sport, on the need to practice a sport activity throughout life. Taking advantage of the organization of the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, Jean-Michel Blanquer and Roxana Maracineanu had announced to the Parisian their wish to develop physical activity at school. The swimming champion had also invested in an “aquatic ease” plan which allows children to learn to swim, starting in kindergarten. "By being placed under national education, sport will weigh more," said a close friend of the Ministry of Sports.
