Monaco: Niko Kovac to replace Robert Moreno

The former Bayern Munich coach will succeed the Spanish technician who was sidelined this Saturday from the Monaco bench.

In Monaco, the coaching waltz continues! Robert Moreno, who was appointed on December 28, was sacked this Saturday. And according to information from the daily L'Equipe, the ASM has already found its replacement: it is Niko Kovac!

Free since his departure from Bayern Munich in November 2019 because of disappointing results, the Croatian technician was seduced by the proposal of the club of the Principality. Despite his mixed time at Bayern, where he was still German champion and winner of the German Cup in 2019, Kovac had managed to prove himself as a coach in Frankfurt by winning the German Cup in 2018.

Inability to embody the new Monegasque project

Moreno, 42, is paying the price for his inability to embody the new Monegasque project. The friendly match against Cercle Brugge on Friday was the last for Robert Moreno on the Monaco bench. Faced with an opponent who finished 14th out of 16 in the Belgian D1 championship, Monaco won (2-0).

This success was not enough to influence a decision taken upstream. It is therefore a new revolution on the Monaco rock several months after the incredible return of Leonardo Jardim and the interlude Thierry Henry. The arrival of sports director Paul Mitchell, from the Red Bull group last month, undoubtedly brought about a new reflection on the coach before deciding to dismiss him this Saturday.

The Spanish coach mostly pays a starvation balance with 5 wins, 3 draws and 5 defeats in the space of 13 games (over a little over 2 months) in all competitions. The former coach of the Spanish team in 2019 (he had replaced Luis Enrique before being dismissed on his return) also failed to put in place a possession game which he advocated .
