London (AP) - Formula 1 may forego the Vietnam Grand Prix due to the coronavirus crisis. The race originally scheduled for April should actually be rescheduled for November.
After a rise in coronavirus cases in the coastal resort of Da Nang, there are now doubts about a race on the street circuit of the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, according to the British broadcaster BBC.
A Vietman Grand Prix is not entirely off the table, but Formula 1 is now thinking about further races in Europe, the BBC reported, citing insiders. Candidates are therefore the Circuito de Jerez in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, and the Istanbul Park Circuit in Turkey. A Grand Prix was held in Istanbul from 2005 to 2011. Jerez was the last venue for a race in 1997 but is often used as a test track.
The complete calendar for the Formula 1 season has not yet been set. The goal is to guarantee at least 16 races in order to collect the full TV money. So far, 13 races have been determined. The last to be confirmed so far will take place in Imola, Italy.
