Barcelona (AP) - After his lightning comeback, Nico Hülkenberg does not necessarily see greater chances of a permanent return to a Formula 1 cockpit in the coming season.
In his own words, the 32-year-old has been in talks with two teams for some time. In an interview with the specialist magazine "Auto, Motor und Sport", Hulkenberg said of his chances: "Increased hopes would be exaggerated."
Hülkenberg helped out at Racing Point after the coronavirus infection of the Mexican Sergio Pérez and was most recently seventh at Silverstone. "I don't know if anything has changed this weekend. It feels like no," he said of his negotiations with the two teams. The people there would know him and not be influenced by a racing weekend. "There is a chance, but it will take a while," said the Rhinelander.
It is unclear whether it will also be used in the upcoming race in Barcelona. As a precaution, Hülkenberg wanted to complete a unit in the simulator as a preparation and then wait on Mallorca for the result of Pérez's most recent test.
