Marcel Schrötter is not satisfied. In Brno he only ranks 15th. The operated arm is not the problem.

Brno / Vilgertshofen - After an arm operation a good two weeks ago, Marcel Schrötter went into the fourth Moto2 race weekend with a handicap. On the other hand, things went extremely well for the Vilgertshofener in Brno in the Czech Republic. Schrötter was at the front in the free practice sessions and set the seventh best time in qualifying. In the race, however, he fell back noticeably after a strong start and ended up only in 15th place. The disappointment was correspondingly great.

"I would like to point out that the arm was not the cause of this cut," said the 27-year-old after the race, according to a message. What caused the problems with the Kalex pilot is not yet clear to him and his Memmingen team "Liqui Molly Intact GP". It was already apparent in qualifying that Schrötter could get into trouble. Because the tires deteriorated extremely quickly.

Not satisfied with qualifying despite seventh place

Seventh place on the grid was not ideal for him. “To be honest, I'm a little disappointed. I think there should have been more in qualifying, ”said the Moto2 rider on Saturday. A driving error on his fastest lap, however, prevented a better placement. Schrötter struggled more with the "terrible condition of the slopes". His arm didn't bother him. "But the condition is far from ideal, even if I don't feel any pain," says the Vilgertshofener.

Schrötter started the race furiously. He quickly moved up to fifth place and was the first pursuer of the top quartet. After around two laps, however, the 27-year-old's day was over. “From that point on, the guys drove past me inside and out as if I'd just rolled around,” he said, describing the situation. "I was lost and didn't know what to do differently."

Only 15th place in the overall World Cup

He had to give up place after place almost without a fight. In the end, at least one World Cup point jumped out in 15th place - not his claim, of course. “All of us, the entire team, work incredibly hard on the training days, inserting an operation at short notice in order to finally achieve the success we deserve. The fact that such a race comes out in the end is just frustrating and I'm also very sorry for the team, ”said Schrötter. His teammate, Tom Lüthi, who had started from 25th and finished 17th, fared even worse.

The victory went to the Italian Enea Bastianini, who also took the lead in the overall World Cup with 73 points. Second place went to the Briton Sam Lowes, while Joe Roberts from the USA came in third. As for the World Cup ranking, Schrötter is now on a disappointing 15th place with 16 points.

The Moto2 rider doesn't have to be annoyed for a long time anyway. The fifth race of the season will continue next weekend in Spielberg (Austria). But Schrötter is already fighting: “The season is still long, there are still many races to contest. We're there and we don't need to hide either. "
