The International Football Confederation (FIFA) and the AFC announced today the postponement of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers to be held in Qatar and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup until next year due to the Corona pandemic.

Reuters quoted FIFA as saying in a statement that the matches were to be held during the months of October and November of this year, setting March 2021 as the tentative date for the start of the qualifiers.

FIFA indicated that it is closely monitoring the situation in order to ensure the health and safety of all teams, referees, fans and the rest of the game parties, as well as follow-up travel restrictions and health measures by governments and reassess the position of the matches program according to the situation of the spread of the new Corona virus.

The World Cup is scheduled to start in Qatar on November 21, 2022, and the tournament will be played for less than a month, and the final match will be held on December 18 of the same year.
