Lagos (dpa) - FC Bayern Munich had to contest its last training session in the Algarve without full-back Alphonso Davies. In Lagos, coach Hansi Flick reported "slight adductor problems" with the left-back, who could only watch on Wednesday.
"This is a safety measure," said the coach of the German record champions two days before the quarter-final hit against FC Barcelona. A Davies in top form is needed there on August 14th (9:00 p.m.) because superstar Lionel Messi attacks mainly via this side.
When asked whether the 19-year-old's mission was at risk, Flick said: "We don't think so." After Benjamin Pavard's failure as a right-back, another remodeling measure could hit the successful Munich defense hard. A possible alternative would be the record purchase of Lucas Hernández, which was committed last year for 80 million euros.
Except for Davies and Pavard, all other actors in the last unit in Lagos were there under a cloudy sky. Before the goalkeeper duel with national team colleague Marc-André ter Stegen, Bayern captain Manuel Neuer and substitute Sven Ulreich put in another intensive goalkeeper training session.
The people of Munich are now finishing their preparation time for the Champions League tournament and are flying from Faro to Lisbon, around 300 kilometers away. "It was ideal here," said Flick about the stay on the Atlantic coast. In Portugal's capital, the Munich team will then do their final training at the Estádio da Luz.
