The men 55 of the TC Weilheim are prematurely champions in the state league. The promotion to the Bayernliga depends on certain factors.

Weilheim- There is no binding promotion regulation in tennis in this exceptional 2020 season. Nobody has to dismount, that much is certain. The respective champions can compete in the next higher division in the coming season - provided that one or more places are free there. The men 55 of the TC Weilheim have now at least created the conditions to apply for a place in the Bavarian League. With the 6: 3 home win against TC Tüßling last weekend, they wrapped up the title in the state league ahead of schedule. In addition, the newcomer from the district town remains unbeaten: five games, five wins - the final match on August 22nd at the TC Kaufbeuren-Kronenberg can be declared as a coffee trip by the Weilheimers. For team spokesman Oliver Richter, this championship comes as a surprise: On the one hand, as a promoted player in the regional league, the level was very demanding due to the merging of the two regional leagues in the southern season. "That was a high-quality competition," reports Richter.

Many clubs, especially in the higher leagues, have not registered a team for the points round this season. That meant: There were many players on the market, some of whom then played in other age groups or with a different club. A few examples: Alfons Aigner hired himself for example with the co-promoted TC Tüßling, the youngest opponent of the Weilheimers. He usually plays in the men's 40 of SV Wacker Burghausen in the Bavarian League. Or the MTV 1879 Munich: The alleged runner-up secured the services of Michael Greiner and Erwin Jahn. The two were on the hunt for points last season in the men's 50 of the TC Kaufering in Bayernliga.

Men 55 of the TC Weilheim rely on experienced workers from their own club

The Weilheim gentlemen 55, on the other hand, went a different way: They rely on experienced staff from their own club. Because of the corona restrictions, the Swiss Thomas Strittmatter could not compete for the Weilheimer this year. Therefore the oldies Johann “Jogi” Schwinghammer (68), Wolfgang Sonn (69) and Karlheinz Schuster (70) helped out. The trio usually plays in the men's 60s in the district league. This time, however, the team refrained from participating in the points round. Richter is full of praise for the three tennis seniors: "They helped out really well." Especially the swing hammer, who came to an individual balance of 3: 1, was very effective. Hubert Eichbichler (number 3) and Oliver Richter (number 6) have a clean slate this season: they have won all five singles so far. Jens Eichmann also hit the ground: The newcomer, who finished third at the 2017 German team championships with Graefelfing's men 55, won four of his five duels. "We almost only played with our own people, so I'm proud of our performance," said Richter. Although the championship has already been determined, the Weilheimers will not let themselves down in the last game of the season in Kaufbeuren, according to Richter: "We want to end the season unbeaten."

The association applies for integration into the Bayern League

According to Weilheim's team spokesman, the club will now submit an application to the association for integration into the Bayern League. That depends primarily on whether other teams withdraw from this division and thus places become free. According to Richter, the chances are pretty good that his men 55 will be able to fight for points in the highest Free State league next season. Then Thomas Strittmatter should get involved again. According to Richter, there are also one or two newcomers under discussion. But the premise is: “We won't buy anyone,” said the Weilheim spokesman.

Men III of the TC Weilheim shortly before winning the title

The second men's team of the TC Weilheim also has reason to be happy: They prevailed in the district duel of the district class 3 at SV Hohenfurch with 5: 4 and is thus close to winning the title (10: 2 points). In the singles, Sebastian Goslich (6: 0, 6: 2), Stefan Nonnenmann (6: 3, 6: 2), Pascal David (6: 0, 6: 1 and Sebastian Bertl (6: 0, 4 : 2 task Hohenfurch). The Goslich / Nonnenmann doubles brought the Weilheim victory with a 6: 2, 6: 3. In the last game of the season, the team will compete on Sunday, September 6th, at the two points worse TC Peiting II.
