District - The last certainty of how the Bavarian Football Association (BFV) will continue to play is still missing. This also applies to the league cup. From mid-September he is also to start in the Zugspitze district from the district league downwards. Interest is high, but skepticism remains.

Eckl: Make sure that there are as many neighborhood derbies as possible

The BFV sees the new competition as a good opportunity to convey game practice to the clubs and to create incentives such as promotion. District game director Heinz Eckl sees himself confirmed for the Zugspitz district: “The registration numbers are totally positive.” All district league clubs reported that the rate for the district and A classes was 90 percent and more. Only in the B and C classes are the numbers lower. “But that's not surprising,” says Eckl.

So he has divided the league cup groups mainly according to geographical aspects. “We also made sure that there were as many neighborhood derbies as possible.” Another criterion was to have the same pairings of first and second teams on the same match day if possible. This largely resulted in groups of six who will determine a winner by the end of October. A first knockout round is planned for November. Basically, the winner of the overall round should be rewarded with the right of promotion.

TSV West has a squad "with only 13 players" - SV Haspelmoor wants to concentrate on the league

Despite all the incentives, two clubs from the district did not report. The highest-class club is district classist TSV West. “I have a squad with only 13 players,” says his coach Norbert Wagner, the main reason for the cancellation. He also considers the league cup to be purely occupational therapy. "The point games are more important to us." Haspelmoor's coach Jürgen Schamberger also has little choice when he asks his players to train. They would rather concentrate on the league instead of the league cup. "This trophy is only a friendly match," said Schamberger. "In case of doubt, a player will refuse if he is hurt." Schamberger has little understanding for the fact that the BFV brings the Cup forward: "If you want match practice, you could have started with the point games." The prerequisites for the clubs would be don't differ too much.

As things stand, only one thing is certain: the league cup will remain a one-off, corona-related affair. "In a normal season you can't put something like that in your schedule," explains Eckl. ( HANS KÜRZL )
