Start of the season in US football: Booed by their own fans when they kneel

The kneeling has become a clear symbol against racism in US sports. At the beginning of the season in the professional football league MLS, however, not all fans liked it.

Boos from your own fans? Reggie Cannon was outraged. "How shameful is that? I find it absolutely disgusting," said the defender of FC Dallas after the 1-0 home game against SC Nashville. Before the game, both teams from the North American professional football league MLS and the referees kneeled while playing the national anthem in order to demonstrate against racism with this gesture. Not all fans thought it was good and booed.

"You don't even get support from your own fans in your own stadium. They don't understand what kneeling means. They don't understand why we kneel. They think we're ignorant and that's incredibly frustrating," said Cannon. Millions of other people would support the anti-racism protest: "And we have fans who boo us. That is a mystery to me," said the 22-year-old.

Just two days after the end of the corona comeback tournament in Florida, the MLS had continued its regular season and had spectators in the stadium. According to the US media, the admitted 5100 visitors were apparently not there for the Nashville victory - according to the ESPN broadcaster, 2912 fans were in the arena.

Both teams could not take part in the "MLS is back" tournament (the MLS is back) due to too many corona cases in the team. On Sunday there will be the next of a total of three duels between the two teams. This means that both teams make up the number of missed games in Orlando.
