Maccabi Tel Aviv announced today (Sunday) the signing of coordinator Chris Jones for one year with an option for another year. The 27-year-old American, 1.83 meters, will complete the yellow but explosive back line of the Yellows alongside Scotty Wilbkin and Tyler Dorsey who are already signed for another season. Maccabi Tel Aviv will compensate Bursaspor, the Turkish team in which Jones played last season, and in which Media only recently signed a new contract for another season. The cost of the entire deal, including compensation to the Turks, is estimated at less than $ 400,000.

Jones has come a long way until he reached Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he is scheduled to make his Euroleague debut. He played at the anonymous Angelo State College, and after finishing his senior year and receiving no offers, began working in an ice cream factory. He began his professional career in the weak Mongolian league, advancing in measured steps. He moved to Basel, Switzerland, excelled and made another leap, this time to Mons from Belgium.

After two years in Belgium, he moved to Bursaspor, the newcomer to the top league in Turkey, and helped it become one of the surprises of the season in Turkey, finishing in tenth place. In 23 media games he averaged 15.3 points, 6.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. During the season, he was also a candidate to join Maccabi Tel Aviv, following the injuries of Nate Walters and John Dibertolomao. The deal did not materialize after Bursaspor president vetoed the move. Jones is considered a strong and fast coordinator with good passing ability, whose Achilles heel is off-archery.
