There were two surprises tonight, when the Eastern and Western leaders lost to teams from 8th place in the opening game of the playoffs. Portland handed the Lakers the loss, much thanks to team star Damian Lillard.
“Since we got to the bubble every game is a playoff game for us, so it prepared us for that game,” Lillard said. "It's just one win. I'm happy to be here and compete in the playoffs again, but we have to look at the next game already."
Lillard's 34 points ruined LeBron James' first playoff appearance with the Lakers, even though he finished with a triple-double. "We've had quite a few falls, ones you can't afford at this point, especially not against a team like Portland," LeBron concluded.
Aside from the Lakers, Milwaukee also came out disappointed after the loss to Orlando in the playoff opener. "There is no magic wand that can be used to change things," Yannis Antocompo said after the loss, "We need to go out and play harder, even harder, play together and have fun."
The winners were led by Nikola Wojciech, who concluded: "We do not care what other people have to say, we are focused on ourselves. We came and played great on both sides of the floor. You have to be prepared for what the other team will do, especially against a team like Milwaukee. "We know them and are ready for everything. Tonight, we were definitely on it. We did a good job and executed the game plan."
