There was no play between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Orlando Magic on Wednesday
Photo: Ashley Landis / APThe players of the North American basketball league NBA want to compete again for the other playoff games according to media reports from the broadcaster ESPN and the New York Times. The three games scheduled for Thursday are to be postponed. The professionals had previously discussed how to proceed after the boycott of the games on Wednesday.
A meeting of the professionals took place on Thursday, another one is to follow. Only the two clubs from LA, Lakers and Clippers, have reportedly spoken out in favor of ending the season.
The cancellations were triggered by the Milwaukee Bucks, which had not competed against the Orlando Magic. With this, the Bucks responded to the latest act of violence by police officers against a black American less than an hour's drive south of Milwaukee. The 29-year-old family man Jacob Blake was seriously injured on Sunday in the US state of Wisconsin by police gunshots in his back.
The NBA canceled the two remaining games scheduled for the day a little after the Bucks boycott. Other North American leagues such as the MLB baseball league, the MLS soccer league and the WNBA women's basketball league followed suit.
Three encounters are supposed to take place on Thursday: The first quarter-finals between the champions Toronto Raptors and the Boston Celtics with Daniel Theis and the round of 16 Dallas Mavericks with Maximilian Kleber - Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz - Denver Nuggets. The teams could therefore return to the floor on Friday at the earliest. US media assume that the playoffs will resume this weekend.
