Tennis top talent Coco Gauff lost her first-round match in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time and has already been eliminated from the US Open.
The 16-year-old American lost on Monday (local time) in New York to number 31 seeded Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia 3: 6, 7: 5, 4: 6.
Gauff had reached at least the third round in her previous three participations in the four most important tournaments.
The then 15-year-old had her breakthrough last year at Wimbledon when she defeated Venus Williams in the first round.
At the Australian Open earlier this year, she reached the quarter-finals in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.
The number one Czech Karolina Pliskova won against Anhelina Kalinina 6: 4, 6: 0 and is just as in round two as the former tournament winner Naomi Osaka from Japan, who beat Misaki Doi 6: 2, 5: 7, 6: 2 won.

Osaka wore a mask with the name Breonna Taylor on it around their match.
Taylor, a black woman, was shot dead by US police in her apartment in March.
You have seven masks with you, said Osaka.
She will wear a new one for every match, commemorating black victims of police violence: "It's pretty sad that seven masks are not enough for all names."
Large "Black Lives Matter" banners were displayed in the otherwise empty Arthur Ashe Stadium.
In the men's category, world number one Novak Djokovic and number four seeded Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas reached the next round without losing a set.
Djokovic beat Damir Dzumhur from Bosnia-Herzegovina in just under two hours 6: 1, 6: 4, 6: 1.
The 33-year-old Serb won his 24th consecutive victory and is still without defeat this year.
He will now meet the British Kyle Edmund on Wednesday.
Tsitsipas left Albert Ramos from Spain no chance at 6: 2, 6: 1, 6: 1.
The Argentinian Diego Schwartzman was the first professional from the top ten of the seeding list to fail against Cameron Norrie from Great Britain (6: 3, 6: 4, 2: 6, 1: 6, 5: 7).
"The facility is dead, empty"
Jan-Lennard Struff won against the Spaniard Pedro Martinez 6: 0, 7: 5, 6: 4.
"It's a bit strange, the facility is dead, empty," said the world number 29.
about the atmosphere in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, in which no spectators are allowed.
On the pitch, however, it "didn't feel so different because everyone always wants to win and push themselves," said Struff, who will meet Michael Mmoh from the United States on Wednesday.
Alexander Zverev had prevailed against Kevin Anderson from South Africa 7: 6 (7: 2), 5: 7, 6: 3, 7: 5 and achieved his first victory after the Corona break.
