Blues coach Didier Deschamps announced on Saturday evening that he had summoned Bordeaux goalkeeper Benoît Costil for the Nations League match against Croatia on Tuesday in Saint-Denis, to compensate for the package of Steve Mandanda, who tested positive for Covid-19 .
"I called back Benoit Costil who will join us tomorrow to make up for the absence of Steve Mandanda," Deschamps said at a press conference after the victory against Sweden at Solna on Saturday (1-0).
The Blues had flown to Stockholm with only two goalkeepers, Mandanda having to leave the group precipitously on Friday morning after two positive tests probably explained by "residues" of the virus chz the porter, already tested positive in mid-August and cured.
Due to the precise UEFA protocol which imposes negative tests on all called up players, Deschamps was unable to summon a third goalkeeper in addition to his captain Hugo Lloris and Lille's Mike Maignan before leaving for Sweden.
