Are we still playing this year or at least not until the New Year, will the season be canceled completely?

The Bavarian handball clubs are very insecure because of Corona.

District - Not only the footballers are currently fishing in the dark when it comes to resumption of play.

Indoor athletes, like handball players, also hang in the air.

The Bavarian Handball Association (BHV) around President Georg Clarke informed its clubs this week in a circular about the current state of affairs, which is not exactly encouraging.

“There are now just under five weeks until the planned start of the season, and there is still no easing in sight - on the contrary,” the association sees big question marks as to whether it can start as planned on the first weekend in October.

At a meeting of the association's gaming committee, the further course of action was finally discussed with the aim of being able to give the clubs the clearest possible recommendations.

“The result is that we cannot guarantee a punctual start of the season on October 3rd,” the association writes to its clubs.

The enlarged presidium is to decide on this on September 18.

The developments on the political side, as in the pandemic, will be observed and taken into account until then.

"Given the prevailing restrictions, a game operation is currently unlikely to be conceivable at the start of the season," the association currently sees rather poor prospects for a regular season start.

The reasons for this are the difficulties in implementing the hygiene concepts prescribed by politicians in practice for “non-competitive sports”.

There is also the problem of the halls, as it is not yet possible to predict how the halls will be available after the summer holidays.

The question of liability in the event of damage has not yet been finally clarified.

“These are just some of the points that, apart from the medical point of view, speak against playing in October,” explains the BHV.

Regardless of this, he is working on a practicable hygiene concept that can be implemented by many clubs when the situation relaxes.

At the same time, considerations are taking place as to how things can go on in the event of an even longer forced break.

The discussion is about a season start with the second half of the new year, which would then be held in the form of a single round.

"If the situation should turn clearly for the better and politics should allow competitive games even without spectators, then the handball players would be able to start within a short time", the association makes the clubs on the basis of their preparatory work in recent weeks hope too.

“Handball remains a great challenge for all of us, and despite all efforts to make games possible, one thing is true: as a club and as an association, we share responsibility for the health of our members and their families, everything else is fundamentally up to us subordinate ”, the BHV makes clear at the end of its letter.
