PSG-OM: 9 years of Marseille scarcity, stop or still?

2020-09-13T11:13:55.229Z

Will Sunday night's clasico put an end to PSG's invincibility against OM? Parisians do not hear it that way.

Presnel Kimpembe warned: the Marseillais "can believe what they want".

For the defender trained at PSG, his team is "ready" to receive OM this Sunday evening at the Parc des Princes.

Despite the absences (Mbappé, Marquinhos, Icardi) and the players physically short (Neymar, Di Maria, Paredes, Navas).

Kimpembe and the Parisians will play for one goal: to remain undefeated against the Marseillais, as has been the case since 2011.

9 years of invincibility.

This is the number that causes the most headaches for OM fans and players.

For nine years, the Marseillais have not been able to beat PSG, whether the match is played at the Stade Vélodrome, the Parc des Princes or the Stade de France.

Nine years of Parisian invincibility with 17 wins and 3 draws (49 goals for, 14 against), including a success in the Coupe de France final (2016).

The last setback for PSG dates back to November 27, 2011, in Ligue 1, in Marseille (3-0), the first and only defeat since the arrival of the shareholder QSI.

OM were very close to stopping this series once: in October 2017, Florian Thauvin's teammates were leading 2-1 at the Vélodrome until the start of added time.

Before Edinson Cavani, top scorer in the history of PSG, scores a direct free kick to shower an entire stadium.

3 point difference.

The programming and the start of the particular season linked (health crisis, postponed matches) play a large part in this figure: there is only a three point difference between OM (10th in the standings) and PSG (17th) before a shock at the Parc des Princes.

To find traces of such a small gap between the two teams, we have to go back to the 2010-2011 season (only 2 points between PSG, then 7th, and OM, defending champion).

This shock placed from the third day of Ligue 1 is also particular.

The clasico has never taken place so early in the season: "I do not understand", also slipped Saturday Thomas Tuchel, who would have preferred to play this match in October or November with "two teams at the top physically".

31 everywhere.

There is perfect equality in Ligue 1 between the two clubs!

31 wins each and 19 draws out of the 81 games played.

This Sunday evening, PSG can therefore, for the first time in its history, have a better record than its historic rival in the league.

The results in all competitions are already largely out of the way of the capital club: 43 wins, 22 draws, 32 defeats.

2 losses in a row?

PSG lost Thursday in Lens at the opening of their championship.

A match counting for the second day of Ligue 1 since the inaugural match against Metz had been postponed due to the final of the Champions League.

The Parisians have a little pressure on their shoulders before facing OM: they have not lost two games in a row in the league at the start of the season since ... 1984-1985!

Nancy and Lille were the opponents of Dominique Rocheteau's team.

2 years of absence…

Neymar has not faced OM since October 2018 and a 2-0 success at the Stade Vélodrome.

The Brazilian star (3 clasicos on his record for 2 wins and 1 draw) missed the last two confrontations due to injury.

Affected by the Covid-19 since August 30 or September 1, the new muse Puma (same sponsor as ... OM) has returned to collective training since Saturday and hopes to start this Sunday evening at the Parc des Princes.
