Arian Ruben has scored his first goal for Groningen since returning to the club (Twitter)
Arian Ruben returned today (Sunday) to the Dutch league for the first time after 16 years and 155 days, but his expected comeback ended already after 29 minutes.
The Dutchman, who returned to his youth team Groningen, was hit in the leg and injured during the game against PSV Eindhoven in the first round of the league, and immediately signaled to the bench that he needed to be replaced.
Ruben then lay down on the grass, and later went down to the locker room in frustration taking off his game shirt.

Ruben's last game in the Dutch league was against PSV Eindhoven in April 2004, and today he again met PSV, another of his exes, at an event that was supposed to be festive for him, which was also attended by his wife and children.
Kroningen fans, who left for PSV in 2002, hung signs in the stands in honor of the 36-year-old footballer, who had already announced his retirement but decided to return to the team he grew up in because of his longing for the game.
Ruben, who has suffered a long list of injuries throughout his career, will hope that this time it is not a serious injury.
