The three-time world champion, bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics, supports Stéphane Nomis' opposition list for the federal election

Another figure of French judo engages in the campaign for the federal election of November 22.

Gévrise Emane, bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympic Games, three-time world champion (2007, 2001, 2015), has decided to join the list of opposition to Jean-Luc Rougé, led by Stéphane Nomis.

The former judoka already has Frédérique Jossinet, Olympic vice-champion in 2004, and Frédéric Demontfaucon, world champion in 2001, as supporters.

Emane, 38, accompanying the athlete performance project at Insep as a state executive, explains.

Why do you support the candidacy of Stéphane Nomis for election for the presidency of the Federation?

GÉVRISE EMANE.

I have known Stéphane for some time.

We were already talking about different subjects when I was still an athlete.

He is a very open person, with a fairly new outlook on society.

He favors participatory management, which corresponds to my way of working today.

So there were a lot of points that matched us.

Do you share his opinion when he declares: "Judo is suffering and must be modernized"?

Yes, judo is suffering, even though there are some very good things being done, great sports results, especially among girls.

I think that people who get involved in judo on a daily basis need a renewal, to be undoubtedly better regarded.

Jean-Luc Rougé, president since 2005, is no longer the man for the job?

Listen, I was received by the two [candidate] teams, so I spoke to Jean-Luc who has worked a lot with his team in which I have no enemies, rather even friends.

But I am a woman of convictions and things must change.

I sit on the Athletes' Commission

(Editor's note: for Paris 2024)

which advocates a renewal of the governance of sport.

It is in this logic that I decided to be on Stéphane's list.

Judo: Rémi Bénitah, and if it was the future Teddy Riner?

In other words, Jean-Luc Rougé and his team have had their day?

She is committing to a fifth term, I think that's too much.

I don't blame him, I am committed to getting things done, particularly in supporting athletes.

There is no commission that represents them in the Federation.

Suddenly, their word is not or very little heard.

I also find it damaging to see very few women in positions of responsibility.

Brigitte Deydier has been DTN and Martine Dupont director of the high level in the past but, since, this momentum has run out of steam.

We also see very little diversity.

It's time to change, to move the lines, and the person who is capable of it is Stéphane Nomis.

In our collective, we find diversity with people from different professional backgrounds with judo as a common point.

This wealth is important.

For fifteen years, Jean-Luc Rougé had to face adversity several times to remain at the head of the Federation.

Why could he lose these elections?

Perhaps because, for the first time, there is a real opposition list.
