Pole vault: Armand Duplantis breaks the "world record" in the open air, with 6.15 m

2020-09-17T19:55:51.464Z

The Swede had already hit hard this winter by dispossessing Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie of the world record set indoors (6.18m)

Definitely the best.

Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis put in the best outdoor performance ever, crossing a bar at 6.15m on Thursday at the Diamond League meeting in Rome.

The one who is already the world record holder at 20 (6.18 m, successful in February indoors) thus erases Sergeï Bubka from the shelves, who had jumped 6.14 m in July 1994 in Sestriere (Italy).

After having struck hard this winter by dispossessing the French Renaud Lavillenie of his world record, the Swede had made this bar outside his summer goal, for lack of being able to play the Olympic Games, postponed to 2021, nor the Euro, canceled in due to the health crisis.

Pole vault: Renaud Lavillenie dethroned by Armand Duplantis

The European champion (2018), for whom the symbolic bar of 6 m has now become a simple formality, had moved somewhat closer to Bubka with a jump to 6.07 m this summer without succeeding until then to unbolt the ancient legend of the perch.
