Darmstadt 98 lost its opening game under the new coach Markus Anfang.

Match winner on the side of Sandhausen was newcomer Daniel Keita-Ruel, who scored three goals in his first league appearance for SVS.
Keita-Ruel had moved from Fürth to Sandhausen.
Mathias Honsak had put Darmstadt in the lead in front of 754 spectators (19th minute) before Keita-Ruel turned the game (29th / 38th, hand penalty after video evidence / 74th).
Tim Starke (90th + 3) made the final score.
