The quality and impressiveness of Giannis Antetokounmpo continues to cause admiration and recognition from the NBA.

The Greek Freak

(The Greek Phenomenon) has been chosen for the second consecutive year the MVP, one of the most coveted trophies and that rewards the best player during the regular season.

The quality of Anteto, a prodigious player, measuring 2.11 meters and 109 kilos, capable of playing in all positions, is indisputable.

It is also endorsed by his statistics: 29.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 5.6 assists, a 55% accuracy in field goals in the 63 games he played in the regular season.

All this combined, in addition, with a defensive efficiency that allowed him to also be chosen the Best Defender of the Year.

Only two players had achieved

MVP (Most Valuable Player)

and

DPOY (Defensive Player of the Year)

in the same season, Michael Jordan in 1988 and Hakeem Olajuwon in 1994.

Antetokounmpo, with 962 votes, beat LeBron James (753), James Harden (367), Luka Doncic (200) and Kawhi Leonard (168) in the MVP election.

The fourth place in Doncic stands out.

The 21-year-old Slovenian point guard averaged 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 8.8 assists in the regular season and was included in the best quintet in the NBA along with LeBron, Davis, Antetokounmpo and Harden.

It is the 11th time in the MVP record that a player has repeated a triumph.

The previous ones were: Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, twice, Moses Malone, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, Steve Nash and Stephen Curry.

Antetokounmpo led the Milwaukee Bucks, the best team in the regular season of the championship with 56 wins and 17 losses, surpassing the 53 wins for the Toronto Raptors and the 52 for the Lakers.

However, in the

playoffs

they unexpectedly fell in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Miami Heat (1-4).

Giannis, the son of Nigerian emigrants, was born in Athens 25 years ago, but until he turned 18 in 2013, neither he nor his four siblings obtained Greek citizenship.

He is the second European player to achieve the MVP of the season, after German Dirk Nowitzki, in 2007. He had a difficult childhood and adolescence and came to sell CDs and DVDs through the streets of the difficult Sepolia neighborhood where he grew up and in which for a long time he feared arrest because he lacked a passport.

Last year, Nike made him the first non-American player with its own line of sneakers: the

Air Zoom Freak 1

, on which, in addition to his logo and his name, his mother's and his brothers' are also inscribed. , and that of his deceased father, in addition to the inscription engraved on the sole

'I am my father's legacy'

(I am the legacy of my parents).

Anteto's progression has been relentless since Milwaukee opened the NBA doors to him at just 18 in 2013. His game is fascinating.

In 2017 he was All Star for the first time.

Since then he has not missed the appointment and on the last two occasions he has been the most voted and the captain of one of the teams.

Before joining the NBA, he had a fleeting stint at CAI Zaragoza, who signed him from Filathlitikos of the Greek Second Division and signed him a four-year contract in December 2012. But the Bucks paid 400,000 euros for the player's pass and they incorporated it months later.

Next season his contract with Milwaukee expires and he will receive $ 27.5 million.

His desire is to renew for the Wisconsin team, although several franchises try to convince him to change of scene.
