The Spanish Football Association said today that Luis Rubiales was re-elected by acclamation to continue serving as president for a new four-year term.
The Spanish Federation announced this news on Twitter, and also published reactions from officials in the world of the popular game, including Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation "FIFA".
Spain's World Cup-winning captain Iker Casillas withdrew from the race for the presidency of the European Union last June due to the Corona virus.
Rubiales, 43, took over the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation in May 2018, succeeding Angel Maria Villar, who was sacked on corruption charges.
One of the first decisions made by Rubiales after assuming the presidency of the federation was the decision to dismiss the services of Spain coach Julen Lopetegui before the 2018 World Cup in Russia and after Real Madrid announced the appointment of Lopetegui as coach of his team.
