Maccabi Tel Aviv on the way to a surprising signing.

American guard Max Heidegger (1.90, 23) is expected to land in Israel soon and officially sign a long-term contract with the Yellows.

Heidegger, who is entitled to Israeli citizenship, may be loaned out in the first instance, although the Yellows may leave him on the roster for the time being in light of the injuries of some of the players.

Tonight it was reported in the United States that Heidegger had already taken off for Israel ahead of the signing, and the guard himself confirmed that he had already signed.

"This is a great opportunity for me and I'm really excited for it," he told the American media.

"Outside of the NBA, Maccabi Tel Aviv is one of the biggest teams in the world."

Even the coach of Santa Barbara College, where Heidegger starred for four years, has already congratulated him.

"Max is one of the most talented players I have ever coached. I have no doubt he will contribute to one of the best teams in Israel and one of the best in Europe. I am waiting to see what achievements he will achieve as a professional basketball player," said coach Joe Pasternak.

Watch Heidegger's performance

Heidegger, who is considered a good scorer and a tough player, is somewhat reminiscent of John Dibertolomao at the beginning of his professional career.

One of the major problems that kept him from becoming a bigger name in college basketball, is his propensity for injuries.

Even when he played in high school, Heidegger suffered from back problems that caused him to retire from basketball for nearly a year.

He had a hard time believing he would return, but in the end he made an unplanned comeback to the pitches in the uniform of Santa Barbara College, to which he actually enrolled for academic reasons (he graduated with honors in sociology).

After finishing his college career (16 points, 3.2 assists and 2.4 rebounds on average last season), he hoped to sneak into the NBA and even received offers to train personally on several teams that wanted to test him closely, but the delays and postponements around the season The NBA made him abandon the plans and accept Maccabi Tel Aviv's offer.
