Former national player Frank de Boer takes over the post of Dutch national soccer coach.
The 50-year-old signed a contract until after the 2022 World Cup, as the Dutch association KNVB announced on Wednesday evening.
The post of bond coach was vacant after Ronald Koeman moved to FC Barcelona in mid-August.
The first game of the former defender, who won the Champions League with Ajax Amsterdam as an active player in 1995, is the game against Mexico on October 7th.
This will be followed by the games in the Nations League in Bosnia-Herzegovina (October 11) and three days later in Italy.
De Boer, who made 112 appearances for Oranje as a national player, was most recently in the USA with Atlanta United, but was dismissed there due to lack of success.
In the Premier League, Crystal Palace split from him after just four games in 2017.
The ex-professional had his most successful time as a coach at his home club Ajax, which he led to four series championships from 2010 to 2014.
"In addition to the post of Prime Minister, this is perhaps the most important function in the Netherlands," said de Boer recently about a possible position as national coach.
At the start of the Nations League, the previous assistant coach Dwight Lodeweges was responsible for the Elftal.
